Hey hey ho!

My much-anticipated moment.

The prefect-librarian annual dinner.

My first on-stage performance in a band.

Honestly, I've been waiting soooo long for this moment, after a week of fun training.

So, today our band went for the band meet again - which starts at 2.30pm. Brought a bass guitar - which belongs to OrangeJuice, and we started rocking ourselves at Cat's house.

The true problem, however, spawns when we were planning on how to bring our instruments to Win Pin Court - a large electronic piano, a cumbersome drum set, two amplifiers, an electric guitar, a bass guitar, an acoustic guitar, and of course, there're the microphones, the cables, blah blah blah..

Our initial plan was to ask Shelhiel's mom for transportation help - till we saw his car, a Kancil. Point taken, plan dismissed.

Next plan - for ME to DRIVE Cat's Mazda there, bringing the drums one by one. Still, couldn't deny the fact that we couldn't move the super-large electronic piano. Plan dismissed too.

Cat was getting more and more anxious by every passing minute. Symptoms? Her talking speed was getting faster and faster, and her gabbles were accompanied by agitated movements. All of us asked her to calm down, but well - didnt work. No matter..

Our next plan!

Cat phoned a lorry-transportation-service, and the lorry driver was here in like, 10 minutes later. Fitted all the instruments safely inside, and we were relieved - first part of our problem solved.

After no preparation, we made our way to Win Pin Court, for some early preparations, setting-ups, etc. Reached there at around 5.30pm, and we were all complaining about the small size of the stage - hardly enough for drums, a piano, a few amps and two guitarists.

Finally reached a decision, and our layout was like this - Drums on-stage; Piano off-stage.

I won't explain in detail about our preparations from 5.30pm till 7.00pm - we were just rechecking our performances, correcting errors, stuff like that.

7.00pm arrived - dashed back to Cat's house, did a quick washup, and returned to the restaurant again. Ignored the "receptionist", who was managing the present-exchange affairs. No matter again, i don't mind not getting a present anyway, haha..

The dinner started, with of course the usual "ceremony-opening-speech" by the teacher-in-charge. Didn't think many were listening to her - most of us were taking peeks from time to time at the dishes served on our respective tables - hot and fragrant.

Was unto my second swallow of my food when the MC called for us - our band.

(Speaking of our band, i think our name was supposed to be "Banana Chapalang Band", suggested by Shelhiel, luckily no one agreed, XD)

Hardly time to brace ourselves. Gulped down another few extra spoonfuls of food, and we finally started our song - When You're Gone by Avril Lavigne.

Wasn't confident during the whole song. Kept worrying about me mis-playing the tabs, so i was fully concentrated on looking at my fingers - didn't really look to the crowd, the audience, sigh. Wasn't the only one, though. Jailman was the same, he said he was nervous too, XD.

Realised our mistake through videos taken by friends down-stage. Shelhiel gave some encouraging words to us all - something about enjoying ourselves, FEELing the song instead of just playing it, and eye-contact with our audience.

Our 2nd and 3rd performance was on the final part of the dinner - where it was 10pm, kinda late because of the time-consuming lucky draws.

2nd performance was quite okay - Teardrops On My Guitar by Taylor Swift, with me being acoustic, Jailman being electric plucking, Shelhiel being soft drumming, and Megan being vocalist.

3rd performance was QUITE okay (that means it isnt really okay..) - The Best Damn Thing by Avril Lavigne. Roster : Jailman - Electric, Me - Bass, Shelhiel - Drum, Cat & Megan - Vocal. The "down" of this performance was that we couldn't find the second mike, that means Cat & Megan had to share one mike. Needless to say, our instruments were okay, but Cat & Megan's voices were drowned out.

The Best Damn Thing ended tonight's dinner, and the guests started to leave. We packed up our instruments, loaded them up the lorry we hired previously - it costed RM20 total.. We hopped up in the cargo area of the lorry and started to shout like hell, while enjoying the cool night air at the same time.

Couldn't say it wasn't fun, though our performance during practice sessions were definitely better. Still, i'm glad Shelhiel gave me a chance to be a bassist for the band - I like the way you give people chances.

Looking forward to a band competition this Saturday night, would probably be in the same band again, but we're not sure still.

Today's a happy day for me - because of some incidences which i'd rather not speak about.

Photos (and probably videos) of tonight's dinner might be posted up later, have to beg for them from friends first.
